Have a new 06 featherweight Win with a 22" barrel. Starting to look for a good handload using a 165 spbt bullet out to 300 or so yards.
What powder and cases do you use? Thanks

Personaly, I've found R-P cases with about 62gr H4350 behind 165gr Rem corlok kills deer good! That load produces about 7/8"-1 1/8" groups @100 yds, about 4" group @ 300yds, in a 64yr old 1903-A3.

Your load may be OK in a military rifle, but it's on the hot side for hunting rifles. Usually 57 to 59 grains of 4350 (H, IMR or XMR) is right for a 165 gr '06 load.

My 21" .30-06 is happy with 58 grains of H4350 and pretty much any of the 165's I've ever tried. Sierra's 165 Gameking is very accurate. Nosler's 165 Partition has worked well for me too. I'm seeing right at 2750 fps from my old rifle, with good accuracy. Hodgdon lists 59 grains of H4350 as max.

Forgot you asked about cases. I generally buy 50-packs of Winchester brass. It works well. Size it, trim it before use.

Regards, Guy

I use Win. Cases, federal 210 primer and 59 grains of H-4350 behind the 168 TSX for 3020 Fps out of my 26 3/4" Krieger barrel very accurate.....

I had good luck w/ Win brass Imr 4350 and win or CCI primers out of my 22" Rem 700. Truth is that if you are looking for a 300 yard gun, the primer won't make much difference. win brass allows good case capacity and is pretty consistant and durable for a fair price. I would also favor H 4350 today because it is supposed to be a little less temperature sensative than IMR but both are great powders for the '06. I Actually used sierra match kings and had pretty good luck (have to admit that my rifle liked a pretty light load of powder though, and it is now retired awaiting cash for a new barrel and possibly cal).
good luck, mark

I shoot 165 partitions behind 61 grains of reloader 19 with cci primers in Nosler and RP cases out of a winchester model 70. It shoots a dime size group @ 100 and has taken several cridders out to 375 yards.

I have a Rem 700, with 22 inch barrel. I have used 165 NBT and 165 SST with 58 gr ADI 2209, which is basically Hogden 4350, Winchester cases and Federal large rifle match primers. I get just over 2700 fps.
In my rifle the SST shoot tighter groups .5 - .7 inch @ 100 yds. NBT were about 1.25 inch @ 100 yards.
The NBT have worked well on a variety of game out to 300 yards. Have only shot paper so far with the SSTs.

Stu.

Headed to the range to see how some of these loads shoot.
Will post the results as shot, as well as what worked best.
