Well guys, it has been a busy spring and summer for us, but our family is moving to Gillette, WY in early August.
I have not posted much as I simply have not had the time, between interviews, church camps, seminars, and such.

My 13 year old son and I did get to compete in MOA's 1,000 yard Cold Turkey shoot. I was fortunate enough to win the 1K match using a MOA Maximum Specialty handgun in 7mm Rem Mag Imp. My 7mm Dakota placed 3rd (I shot the match twice). My son using a 6.5-284 XP came in 4th @ 1k (so only two adults beat him at 1K:D).

I made the mistake of letting a couple of guys use my 6-284 XP @ 750 yard match and my own gun beat me:eek:.
I wanted to do well with the MOA @ 1k as my number one goal and promote LR shooting, so I am quite content with the results.

The match is held outside of Sundance, WY (one hour east of Gillette, WY).
My son had been bugging me about wanting his own MOA, so I told him if we moved to Gillette I would buy him one--OOps, I guess he is getting that 250 Savage Imp MOA now:D.

I put in for a left-over antelope tag in area 31 and hope to hunt with some of my specialty handgun buddies this fall.

If you are ever in the Gillette area, let me know.

I hope you find a reasonable place to live there. Our emloyees are finding only double wides for 205k. Apts are 1200 a ,onth for a 1br 1ba.The coal and railroad boom are inflating real estate prices by 50% or more.

The shoot sounds fun.

I hope to visit there this summer to see a friend from Realtree that lives there and see our coal trains get loaded.

Silver-Tip CO,
I am a preacher by vocation and the church has a parsonage, so housing is not an issue for us.
I will be preaching for the Gillette Church of Christ beginning August 5th.

If you enjoy shooting a specialty handgun, you would enjoy the competition.

I like handguns and long range a lot but am mostly a rifleman. Perhaps if I do actually get to Gilette to visit one weekend we can meet.

Elmer Keith (as I recall) killed an elk at about 550 yrds with a S&W Model 29 44mag. To show it wasnt a fluke, the very next day he did it again...

My brother is a sheriff deputy out in Gillette and I've been hunting out there a few times with him. It's a different part of the country for sure but you can't beat it for long range shooting opportunities.

Ernie,
Hope to see you at the hunt, I'll be getting another MOA before then, in 7mm this time. I'll be stopping by Rich's probably on the way home.

Mike

xphunter,

Congratualtions to you!
Please congratulate that young man for me, he's doing a great job. Give him a good old hand shake from this preacher!

Sounds exciting.
It is looking like I may get to meet more of the guys I have shared posts via the web with through the years now that I am living in Wyoming.

Also, since I am so close to Dave Lauck's I.T.R.C. match I will have to play that game again I suppose.

I will be Antelope hunting about 30 miles South of Gillette this fall & will be staying in Gillette. I am a member of Noland Church of Christ, South of Pocahontas, AR. Maybe you can meet our group & I will buy you Supper.

Well, we made it to Gillette on Wednesday afternoon. We are in temp housing for about three weeks due to some confusion, but we are staying in a fully firnished house at no cost during this time.
If you had my old cell # it is no longer good. I should have a new cell phone by tommorrow. If you had my old cell #, just email me [email protected] and I will give you my new one as soon as I get it.

Rode my road bicycle 15 miles yesterday and saw about 40 antelope inside the city limits:D

If you also like to bow hunt then you might go talk to the owners of Bell Knob Golf Course. I've heard that they let bow hunters hunt on the course are there are a few good goats there.
