They finally did it!! 6.5 cal 155 grain Berger Elite Hunter!!!

Funny when I talked to BERGER last year about a heavier 6.5 bullet they said there would not be enough interest and they had no intention of making one. Guess they must have changed their mind.

Following this thread over on LRO. This makes me want to get started on my next project... Anybody know if it's a hybrid, or just standard vld?

Two questions: 1. Will this bullet be too long for a CM on a short action?
2. Do you think this will breathe new life into the 6.5x284?

I dont have a CM, so i havent looked into that. But the 65x284 outruns the CM by a large margin, the big Berger should work just fine. Just guessing a 26" 6.5x284 should push it at 2800+.

Based off the 155 Sierra HPBT LR MatchK and the 155 Cauterucio BT VLD according to QL with my 6.5 Creedmoor 26" and my lot# of RL26 I should be able to get 2850 - 2875 fps without exceeding SAAMI pressures. So far QL has been right on the money with calculating velocity with my set up and RL26 using 130, 140, 143 and 147 grain bullets so I have no reason to doubt it's calculations now. I just don't know if it will be in an accuracy node or not until tested. It would also have to be better BC than the 147 ELD-M to make it worth wild for me. My 147 ELD-M are shooting tight groups and low SD at 2930 fps.

Wow that's fast for a Creed. 147's at 2930 is impressive. That is 260 AI territory. What type of barrel and how long? I am thinking the 155 may be nice in the 6.5 Sherman. Of course Berger comes out with a new bullet right after I bought some 147's.

I wouldn't even think about pushing one of these in a Creedmoor. Not nearly enough boiler room to push them where they need to be to have a ballistic advantage over the 140's. A 140 is hard enough to fit in the case with a 2.800" COAL as is as well. Now this bullet in one of the Magnum cases would be killer. I think Nosler should be kissing Bergers boots right about now as this 155 in their new 26 Nosler should go together like peanut butter and jelly.
