7mm STW load for 160 accubonds.

I have a 7mm STW by robert gradous. I helped him build this rifle and i am a young hunter/shooter. I do know how to reload but i do not have a clue for what amount of powder or what is the best powder for my rifle. My rifle has a 28 inch Krieger barrel but i dont know the twist. I plan on using 160gr accubonds as they shoot best out of it, better than the 168gr bergers. It is flying about 3600fps and id like to stick around that number. What is the best powder to use for it? gun)

160 accubonds out of a 28" barrel 7mm stw @3600fps? I doubt it. My 7mm rum with a 28" barrel shooting 160 accubonds will only get 3400-3450fps!gun)

Well first off, I would start with talking to the man who built the rifle, he can probably help with most of your questions, since he built it. Then next you should be getting a reloading manual or two at least, that would get a good start for you.

By the sounds of things your a little ways off reloading yet. Best would be to hook up with someone more experienced. Learn how to get max COAL, get some real data, chrony some loads. One thing you NEVER DO is take load data off the Internet with out having real reloading books to cross reference.

I like Hodgdens US869, its also a ball powder and meters very easy.

77.0grs of R-22 with 160gr Accubonds shoot really well in my 7STW.

Im pretty sure I wouldn't learn to reload my first rounds with an over bore 7mm STW. It holds a ton of powder and the ability to split the action in half if extremely hot loaded. Get with someone to teach you the ropes and read a lot. You will love what its capable of doing for a long time with all your fingers in place.

Get with someone to teach you the ropes and read a lot. You will love what its capable of doing for a long time with all your fingers in place.

I started reloading with a 7mm STW that I've had since 2002... Along with several other cartridges. But the 7mm STW was the first one I ever started with. As long as you follow book manuals and follow safe loading procedures, you will be fine.

Also, this thread is from 2011...I'm sure he's got the STW figured out by now.
