Anybody using H1000 in 270 WIN? I'm shooting 140 gr Accubonds, and thought I may want to try some.

Way too slow of a powder. . .
If you're milking the Nth degree of velocity Norma MRP, N205, RE-22 and some are using 7828ssc with 150 class bullets.
If not pushing but looking for moderate range accuracy, any of the above powders loaded down a bit and 4831 around the 60 grain mark should produce accuracy.
I'm a velocity hawg with the little winnie pushing the 140s @ 3200 with Reloder 22, in the summer time. Temp drops it a bit in winter. But it shoots very well at that velocity and good for out to 800 yards or so.

It's(h1000) a bit slow in the 270, but you can't go over pressure with it to easily either. My brother had a Retumbo load for his 270 win and I currently have a wc872 load for mine, and both shoot very well, albeit at slightly lower velocities.
The previous poster must have a fast rifle as I've not gotten over 3100 fps with any hunting weight (130 gr. or more) bullet in either of my 270's; or he's on borrowed time before he loosenes his headspace up. Either way, 3K on a 140 is about it unless you have a wsm.

Hey high cotton, Did you get any useful information on using h1000 in your 270? I like a full case!
After nearly 4 years, I sure hope the OP has since moved on. As noted, the H-1000 is way too slow. I use H4831SC for both my .270 Win and .270 AI with very good success.

I used to use it with 140 ab and it worked awesome and I had high velocity and great accuracy with it.
Im currently using it in 3 rifles. 61.3 gr. It seems to work well with a 1:10 twist with a 130gr. Sie. SBT Bullet. H 4831sc wouldn't even come close to the accurracy i get with it. It runs around 2900 fps. With single digit sd's. Seat that puppy about a .001 off and all 3 rifles shoot sub 1/2 min. Groups. Slow and steady wins the race IMO. I use alot of neck tension. .004 to be exact. Spring back on an annealed RP case is about .001. Fed 210 primer.

I am using it with 150 Berger's. It was very easy to find an accurate load. Shooting .36 at 100 and a little over 2" at 500. Start at 56 grains and work your way up. I am seating mine on the lands. I think it is around 2875 by the drop at 500. I also think I can improve on the .36. I have only shot it on a couple of outings.

Thanks, lots of great info. Have either of you tried H1000 out of a 22" barrel? Might be to short for that slow powder. If you haven't I guess I'll just give it a try and then we'll all know. I could not get the accuracy out of 4831 or 4350 that I was satisfied with. If I could get 2900 fps and be 1/2" or less @100yds I'd be a happy old man!

I loaded up some 140 grain Hornady IL bullets in my 270Win over a compressed load of H1000 and shot them a couple days later and they shot into one slightly ragged hole at 100yds. I then loaded up enough and more for a deer hunting trip and though I didn't lose any deer I had a feeling they weren't shooting as good as they had on the range trip, so when I returned home I pulled a couple bullets and the powder had stuck together like a soft cinder block and had to be broken up with a pick to get it out of the cases. I shot some more at the range and the groups opened up to 6-7". I switched back to H4831 and though the groups are very slightly larger the ammo is way more stable. I won't use H1000 in anything that requires a compressed load from now on. YMMV
Let me tell you a little secret about this load. I have never used a new case with this combo. All have been once fired from another gun. The other 2 guns i load this round for are for friends who use them to hunt with. I used what i had. I recently bought my .270 and im just getting a chance to fine tune the load for it. Im experimenting with several types of brass to see what my gun likes best. Im finding it likes whatever i load the h 1000 and the fed 210 primer in. Doesnt seem make a difference what brass i use. I used RP, win. Hornady frontier. The only difference i found is that the frontier brass will increase the velocity. That might be what you want to use due to the shorter barrel. 61.3 gr. Is .3 gr. Over lee manual start load. You are good to go at whatever brass you choose to load it in. If the chamber neck clearence is a little sloppy i would buy some norma brass and use it. Im getting ready to buy some new norma brass to try. Its good stuff. It will tighten your groups up. The velocity seems to run about the same RP. I think you would be very happy with the frontier brass. Thats the case to use if velocity is what you desire. Load 61.3 gr. With a 130 gr. SBT and let me know what happens.
i havnt had any trouble with it. Are you sure your powder was'nt damp. I keep one of those little bags that draws moisture out in my powder can to help keep the powder dry as possible. Where they brand new cases? The way i load mine im only slightly compressed after fireforming. 61.3 gr.
