I've got a Savage model 12 benchrest in 6mmBR that is 1 in 8 twist, I bought it from Northland Shooter Supply.

For Christmas I got my first ever brand new rifle. It is the Savage LRPV in .223 that I put a Night Force scope on and I nice medium Harris bipod. I have always had a soft spot for Savages and for heavy barrel guns but this one is HUGE! Anyhow I just did the break in the other day not really expecting much during that session. It truly AMAZED me and shot several 1 hole groups even while swabbing the bore between shots. This was done with factory Remington 55 grain FMJ ammo. I only expect that it will continue to get better and with good handloads be almost too easy to shoot! By the end of the day we were with out effort shooting clays at 300 yds. By far the most amazing gun I have ever owned. The other was a fully customized Remington 22 lr that would shoot .357 casings at 100 yds. I can't wait now for prairie dogs this spring!

My 6.5x47 L was supposed to be here by now but hasn't made it yet. Called SSS Friday and there was some foul up on the Stock. Moved the completion date to sometime in Feb. Oh well to cold to shoot now anyway. Guess I'll have a new rifle for my birthday rather than for X-mas. Looking forward to working up loads for it.

Savage really does need a long action to compliment this short action. I would buy one in a second if I could get a long action in 7 STW with 29" long and 3/4" diameter at end of barrel.

Any suggestions?????

I have heard of Changeable barrels on savages but the action and ejection probably will not work for the long 7 STW case.

you would have to remove the bolt to eject a live case. empties should eject okay, the port is just over 3". the barrel and bolt face would need changed...

or go with a 7mm wsm, which would eject live or empty. Granted, its no STW, but hey...

still need the bolt face & barrel.

I could deal with pulling the Bolt for removing loaded ammo. However modifying the bolt face and rebarreling on a +$1200 gun sould excessive.

Maybe one day.
