Savage Dual-Port Model 12 LRPV Review By Jon R. Sundra

Quote:
There’s no question that under the leadership of Ron Coburn, Savage Arms has become one of the most innovative among our major centerfire rifle manufacturers. The latest example of that forward-thinking gives a new wrinkle to the right-hand bolt, left-hand ejection they introduced a few years ago in select varmint rifle models. Granted, they weren’t the first to do it, but they were the first major manufacturer to do it, and to this day they remain the only one.

Now they’ve taken it a step further with the dual port Model 12 LRPV. You heard right: a rifle with a bolt handle and ejection port on the right side — just like any ol’ conventional bolt gun — but with a second port … one for loading, on the left side! Read More...

Nice explanation on this new Savage rifle. From your read it looks like it is a serious long range varmint rifle. One more to consider for the next project.

We have been able to purchase just the action in undesignated form since shortly after the shot show. Incredibly innovative thinking. As a Specialty Pistol hunter I find the dual port most satisfying when I can extract and feed at the same time. The liberal length of the port lets me extract some very long cases as well.

Two very big thunbs up!

I have one coming from SSS in 6.5x47 Lapua. Should be here around Xmas, nice to read your opinions on the rifle. I'll really enjoy wringing this one out.

I'll keep you posted. Right now I'm having fun getting all of the paraphenalia together, scope, redding target dies, powder, bullets, and the rest of the "stuff " you need for a new caliber.

I also read the review in a recent magazine article. Having been delighted with my Savage 116 in .30-06 w/ Accustock, I'm going to take a good look at this rifle for varmint and target work.

Cheers,

FH
