What are you looking to shoot? I don't have a dog but I get a few hun's, mountain grouse, and pheasants every year.

Someday, a APS Raptor LRSS in 338 AX. Time to step up my game. Ordered 10/2011 and still waiting!

Lots of shooting between Helena and Three Forks on both block management and state/federal ground. Go high and near water (creeks, springs, and water seeps) for mountain grouse. Go near water and grain for pheasants (not open till October). Look for dry land farming for hungarian partridge and sharptail grouse.

Go talk to the local biologists for suggestions on where to hunt with higher populations of birds.

Welcome to the Big Sky Country!

Eric (500mag_guy) is near you and might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck and happy safe shooting/hunting.
