Shawn's long range black bear

After seeing Shawn's shot at a gazzillion yards, I felt we should have a forum for bears.

Bear hunting in the right kind of country is yet another great long range opportunity. We started ambushing canyon berry patches a couple of years ago and it has been a challenge and a great time. It usually give you alot of time to "size" the bear up.

Shawn,
That was an awesome shot on a nice bear! Great video too. After accumulating points for the last seven years I'm starting to lose hope of ever drawing a tag here at home. Can you tell me what areas to check out there for a non resident tag? Draw odds? Success rates?

Thanks!

We have a lot of bear hunting in Oregon. In some area's you can take 3 bears a year. I like calling them in myself. The only one I have killed so far was 80 yards with a handgun SRH .454 w/red dot. Great fun and very exciting. He now stands in my living room. I know 80 yards isn't long range for a rifle or a specialty pistol, but for a revolver it's not to bad.
