Last one I shot was with my Win M94 open sights (1972 manufacture) in .44 Mag 250gr Nosler Partitions... hand load.. 45 yards.. dropped him, one more quick followup just to make sure... That fisrt one was all that was needed, those 250gr Nosler Par really put the zap on that old bear.

I really don't like shooting bear over bait that much, but I've done it. The excitement was that the bear approached from behind the blind, and walked straight for me. My 30-06 was adequate, but I'd prefer something fast handling like a Ruger deerfield carbine in .44mag, with a 2 minute red dot 1x scope. The bear was big, a little over 7', and had to use grizzly form for full mount. I believe baited bear hunting is best at Duck mountain, Manitoba. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my black bear that stumbled across my path while I was hunting for grizzly in Yukon more, despite the bear being a lot smaller.

Up here in part of this enormous state we hunt with lever actions. I use a Marlin 444 guide gun and all my hunting buddies use Marlin 45-70 guide guns. We like the short barrels and easier to manuever in the woods.

Looks like I made a good choice for a bear gun. My most recent purchase was a Marlin 1895 45-70. I put a Leupold on it.

I purchased the loading blocks on 6br. Go to the site and type in CNC Loading blocks. The guy goes by Tomekeuro85 on the 6br site. Outstand quality
