PA Elk Hunting

Has anyone been putting in for the limited draw elk tags for PA? I put in for the first two years when it started back in 2001 and as of thus morning, I'm going to start putting in yearly. I grew up about 30 minutes from the popular Winslow Hill Area. I was going to put in for zone 3 only, however, to increase my chances, I went with no area preference - antlered only. Who knows, 20 years from now I might draw.

Iv'e been putting in since 2001 as well. Antlered only, no preference.. Been donating money to the game commission since 2001

I applied a few times before they started keeping track of preference points . since then I have missed one year . for a while I applied for any area either sex . lately I've been applying bull only, any area . I have a better chance of getting struck by lightening , but I try anyway . Jim

I have hunted, hiked, biked, and driven, large parts of zones 2,3,4, just to name a few. I know a couple of the locals from Emporium and St. Mary's who guide. I think I could find an elk or two on my own. I guess what sparked my interest thus morning was I saw a show on tv called Boone and Crocket Country and they were featuring the PA elk and hunting them. So I decided to start putting in again. What's the worst that could happen, they tell me NO!

our camp is not far from the winslow hill area. its gotten to the point you might see more elk than deer while driving along rt 555. weve had 2 very large bulls
shot on our property in the last few years. the most recent 2 years ago was an 8x9.
ive never applied for a tag and doubt i ever will. the whole thing is a turnoff for me.
being a guide means you know all the roads in the area and whose yards the elk have been visiting. thats a fact not a joke.
theres no doubt the herd has grown to a large number. much larger than the game commission admits to. they have drasticly reduced the size of the deer herd in that area. yet the elk herd has grown dramaticly.
its common to see herds of 25 or more in our yard.
millions of dollars have been spent promoting the elk herd. by way of large visitors centers, elk viewing areas and so forth. take a ride up winslow hill and see for yourself. and there are other locations also.
