Re: good pack for elk

I use an Eberlestock J34 and love it! It lets me hike with my gun in my backpack up the mountain in the dark and then expands big enough to get half a quartered elk out in one trip. My knees felt that load the next day but my back and shoulders were fine. They are awesome packs.

Re: good pack for elk

They are internal frame packs. I know some people are hesitant to try and load them that heavy but with a hind quarter, front quarter, both backstraps and tenderloins, plus my gun and 2 liters of water the pack held the load like a dream.

Re: good pack for elk

I use an Eberlestock gunslinger as well. Big enough for an elk hind quarter. I usually have a frame pack in the truck or at camp if I need it. The Just one's are great packs also. Eberlestocks are hard to beat if your hauling a rilfe. The gunslinger will hold a "taller" rifle (big scope bipod, or AR). I have never wished I could pack more into my gunslinger.
