Elk Bullet

I am going on my very first Elk hunt this year. I am a little fired up, to say the least. Taking my 300 win, the meat getter. My question is to you guys who have "been there and done that" which bullet? My rifle shoots 200 gr Accubonds and 210 Bergers almost identically, the Berger might be .25" better @ 300. Thanks

Re: Elk Bullet

I don't have any experience with Bergers, but your 200 gr Accubond will work fine. I've shot a pretty good pile of elk with 180 gr Partitions from my .30 Gibbs.

I used 160 gr Accubonds in my 7mm Rem mag for caribou, musk ox, a pile of African plains game, and for my elk last year. They worked great.

My elk bullet this year will be a 180 gr Barnes TSX from my .300 Wby.

Re: Elk Bullet

200 grain Accubonds work for me. I have taken 7 elk with them and will be using them again this year

Re: Elk Bullet

They would both be work but the Accubond is a tougher bullet for those closer shots but still works for the the longer shots

Re: Elk Bullet

My vote goes to the 200 AB for elk.

Barnes TSX 200gr. I have taken 3 elk with them without fail.

Re: Elk Bullet

I've taken several elk with the 30 cal 180gr TSX and the 338 cal 225 & 250 gr Accubonds. I picked up a 300 RUM this spring and it shoots 210gr Bergers sooooo good I believe that's the bullet I'm gonna try this fall if I hunt with that rifle. If it shot 200 ABs equally well I think that's the way I would go.
But it gonna be hard to leave my 338 RUM in the case on opening morning.

Phil
