The Vermejo is a special place, I am so blessed to spend 5 months of the year on this ranch, and with the people I work with there. As a guest told me once it's really like a national park that's private. I have hunted elk, and guided elk hunters in 5 different states and this ranch is far and away the best place I've seen for elk hunting.
Now these are wild elk, and it is elk hunting, but you will see elk on the ranch and, most days you see lots of elk. You have a very good chance of success on this hunt.
Good luck....... Gator
Thank you Gator, the ranch is truly a wildlife paradise. You are blessed to be able to fish some of the greatest water on earth.

Looking into doing an Elk hunt at Vermejo Ranch. That hunt looks spectacular.

Hornporn - How long of drive from the motel to the hunting grounds? A 30-40 mile drive is, what, about an hour?

Think I'm going to be shooting Barnes bullets (30-06) but have to get to the range and try different setups.

Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Less than hour from the motel room to the hunting grounds isn't bad at all.

I noticed that you go in January. I would imagine the weather could really complicate things for you. Have you ever been snowed out? I'm guessing no rainchecks or anything so you're out of luck.

Even though you stay at a motel and not at the main ranch house, is it possible to visit it? The house must be amazing inside.

Sorry for all the questions - this would be my first real hunt & this place just appears to be too good to be true and a bit intimidating/overwhelming.

HB.......
I'll jump in on this one, and hope I don't step on anyone's toes.
The Vermejo has a very good road system, and at least 3 full time people that work on the road crew year around. January weather could be a crap shoot, but that would not stop me from going on a hunt then.
As far as seeing the big house you can ask, but I will tell you the ranch is in the middle of a remodeling job there that I believe will take over a year to complete. ( they started last summer on it) You drive by it to get to the game barn so at worst you will see the outside of it and the main lodge.
As I said before, these hunts have a very high success rate, I spoke with one fellow this past summer fishing on the ranch that told me he was 14 for 14 on Vermejo cow hunts. This is a great value in an elk hunt.
I'll be on the ranch this time next week and will not be home until the end of September, but if I can help anyone in any way, get with me this fall. Best place to eat in town in my opinion is the Oasis.
Good luck.
