Allmost Time
Well guys it's about time to start the Elk rifle season and I just wanted
to wish everyone good luck and good hunting.
After Ike blew through I wasn,t sure I would be going but things are looking
good for the trip now.
I was hopeing for some cooler weather for sight in but it hasn,t happened
yet so I will have to do some testing when I get there to establish my zero
better. ( will be going from sea level to around 10,000 feet and 80deg, to
30 or 40deg).
My friend that lives in unit 70 has been seeing a nice bull (7x7) but he said he
was 4 or 500 yrds every time he saw him ( I just hope I can get a chance at
him at that distance) should be a chip shot for the 338 RUM.
Maybe in a month or so we should have some good stories posted and maybe
with a little luck I will have something to post.
Good luck to all

Re: Allmost Time
I hope you get a shot at 400-500 yards at him! Good luck and stay safe.
Which season are you hunting? I'll be in Colo for Oct 18-26th rifle season

I'll Be there the same time (18 -26)
It's the latest that I have ever hunted Colorado.
It's just been the last couple of years that I have started rifle hunting for Elk. for
the last 40 years I have been bow hunting them (It has a lot to do with my age) so
the challenge with a rifle is the longer shots, plus it's not as much work.
Good luck

Re: Allmost Time
Ten days and a wake up.
I'll be hunting unit 70, will be our third year there.
looks to be a warm one, unless we have a front come in like last year.
Good luck

Re: Allmost Time
Phil,
I guess the CO weather report must not be very accurate in NY;)
It's supposed to snow 10" tonight through tomorrow above 8,000 ft. A lot can happen with CO weather in a couple hours, let alone the next 14 days. Don't believe the long range forecasts, nobody can reliably tell you the weather more than a couple days out. They're just guessing.
Good luck on your Elk Hunt!
