Stu.
Thats funny! My scope is in meters and I keep my rangefinder set to meters. So originally I did a quick conversion to yards in my head and thought the shot was 998 yards! Later that evening I did a precise conversion with a calculator and it came to 1,003.9! I felt better!

Yes, they were silenced and it feels great. They disapprove of my style of hunting, questioned my shooting ability, my equipment and even my choice of bullets. Relatives too, that's even worse. The proof was in the pudding!

As a side note, we cut the meat up Sunday and where I shot his front shoulder was devastating. I hit him dead center in the bone about 6 inches above the joint and it looked like you shot him with a cannon ball! Huge chunks of bone displaced and broken that were actually shoved apart far enough that the bone chunks put big slices in the surrounding meat. All of that and still went on to take out the back of the lung.

Re: 1,003 Yard Roosevelt Bull

Many years ago was heading to Tillamook bay for some fall salmon fishing, was coming up Neahkahnie mountain when I came upon a car parked in the ditch facing my direction with the windshield pushed in and right away I knew what had happened, up the road another 100 feet was a huge bull elk laying dead in the opposite side of the road, his horns were almost black except for about 8 inches of the tips were pearly white, he was a perfect 6x6. Growing up in Astoria I have seen some extreme monster bulls.

Nice to hear from you Chuck. Yes, there are some nice bulls around but I learned years ago that you don't just walk in on them in the thick brush we have out here. You shoot way across into their little cubby hole where they're feeding thinking that they are safe. Speaking of fishing, we have one of the best fishing holes in the county with the trask river running through our family dairy farm, too bad I don't have the patience or interest in fishing. I can wait for days if need be for the big bull to show up!!
