168gr SMK?

Is a 168gr SMK enough bullet for antelope @ 300-400 yds out of a 30-06? If not, what would the maximum range be for correct bullet performance/energy? I'm loading for someone, and am looking for a bullet (that I preferably have) that will work from 0 - 300 or 400 yds. The gentleman who I am loading for probably would have nightmares @ 400 yds, but I'd like to prepare for that distance just in case.

Thanks.

Re: 168gr SMK?

Antelope are fragile animals. They die easily if hit properly. Badly placed shots will be a problem with any bullet. Any bullet that is good for NJ whitetail will work fine for antelope.

Re: 168gr SMK?

Thanks this answered my question, but as a sidenote, here in NJ: You can't legally use a rifle for big game. Woodchucks only, on private or federal lands (not state); and if you use a 30 cal or larger the bullet has to be 100 gr. or less. This state (sorry "peoples' republic") s***s.

The 165 bllistic tip or the 165 accubond will work very well at these distances and can
be loaded to 3000 + ft/sec velocity.

With a 225 yrd zero he will be good to 300 yrds with no hold over and only 2" high at
100 yrds.

Both bullets perform well at 30/06 velocitys and the accubond will do less meat damage.

I shot a Lope with a 7mm 168gr Berger launched at 2850fps at 440 yds he went 10yds and never moved again. This was from my XP-100 16.5" barrel. No meat damage either.
