WhiteTail Bullet

If you guys were setting up a heavy barreled(under 10#) 300WSM for deer hunting from 300 to 600 yards. What bullet would be your preferred bullet to hunt with?? Tom

Re: WhiteTail Bullet

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you intend to hunt whitetail only....

I shoot a very similar round & have had incredible success with the 150grn TSX, I would easily recommend the 150 TTSX. Inside 600 the somewhat low BC value should be somewhat offset by the extra velocity.

If you want a little more "pop" the 168 TTSX is what I am playing with now with a BC increase of .050 IIRC .420-.470 & should still be able to achieve ~3200fps.

I would go with a 150 to 165gr bullet for deer at those ranges.

Good velocity and trajectory.

I like the bonded core bullets (More consistant performance shot to shot).

Re: WhiteTail Bullet

200 grain Accubond, bc .58, case full of R22, = about 2900 fps

Re: WhiteTail Bullet

Personally I am a 180 grain guy out of 300's. Accubonds fly nice, Hornady SST's or Interbonds, and you can not leave out the Barnes. Personally I have had good results with 180 grain Accubonds in my .300 WM.

Re: WhiteTail Bullet

The weight of the bullet doesn't matter and neither does the brand. It may come as somewhat of a disappointment to you to know that deer aren't the tough. What does matter for those long shots is accuracy so, pick the bullet that is the most accurate for you first of all. Secondly, pick the bullet that provides the best ballistics in the gun you're shooting. As long as the bullets is made of lead and/or copper it will kill deer just fine.
