The Coues Whitetail deer. Found in AZ, NM and Mexico. Nicknamed the grey ghost of the desert and the poor man's sheep hunt. Very tough country and very smart deer. Very addicting to hunt.
I have hunted blacktails in calif and Muley's and Whitey's in Idaho. Of those three true mature near book sized bucks, I find Muley's are the hardest. Blacktails are by far the hardest just to find even a decent one to put your sights on,
I think a high country muley. Where I'm at there are very few of them and it is very rugged. This was a area with son. I shot a big buck, but had to shoot sort of , off a alder branch and so I had to go find him. He stood up out of his bed @ 30 yrds and I HIT HIM W/325, son said you missed, knew I did not so I put one on point of shoulder next, that did it. These bucks are very massy in body from terrian, buck was 26'' around neck @ ears
