Sambar Down Under

'Tis the season for Sambar deer down under. Anyone here going for a bang?
I'm now using a Win 70 325wsm, new and untried.
What about you?

Hi Dongle,
Here is one I donged late last year in the Gatta with my .338 Edge.

Since then I have built a light weight .338 RUM to get into more remote areas. It is pictured below with me practicing at 1000 yards. I have since put a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 scope onto the rifle. I am looking forward to the season ahead.

Where are you based?

They are awesome looking deer. Hopefully I'll get down there to hunt them soon. Good luck!

Oakleigh hey, You have a bit of a drive then to get to good Sambar country.

I'm from down Gippsland way, so have them in my back yard so to speak.

That .325 should do OK with the right bullets. Be good for 500 or so with the right bullet placement. What scope are you running?

Re: Sambar Down Under

Hi Topshot. I figure I ain't so far. All I gotta do is hold the steering wheel while I'm sitting on my bum. Have to allow for coffee, piss and meal breaks though.
Currently got a Minox 3-15x42. I've Swarrovski, Leuoplod, Zeiss, Kahles and others and without doubt these are the best value glass I've seen.
I can't help but envy you though where you are. I'm too close to the big city here and way too many greenies around here to be comfortable.
Next project for my Sambar stick is 376 Styer on a Kimber 84L
