Re: rifle for my son
dont know much about that new Marlin rifle except I think it is a HOWA but not sure.
I would get the REM 700 in a LA.
Impact guns has REM 700 SPS for 520 or so cheepest place on the net.
Reason I would get the rem is there are simply more aftermarket parts for them it makes getting what he wants in the long run all the more atainable.
You sound like a good dad

Re: rifle for my son
how much are you willin' to spend? I've not heard of a Marlin being fielded in centerfire competition as of yet, and until then I'll stay comfortably skeptical about what their latest and greatest offering is capable of.

Re: rifle for my son
At this time you can get a Remington 700 around $450.00 or less with a scope at just about any Pawn shop.. Check it out, they wont to make money and if they know you are going to another place they will bend over.. Deal. Well you know what I am saying. I got a sweet Winchester 94 for $299.00 and after season I made $100.00.

The Savage 11 this would be my advice also. They have a great reputation for accuracy and durability.
