our 2013 oregon deer season

Finally have time to post some pics of our 2013 eastern oregon deer season. The weather was less than perfect this year which made hunting difficult. After 2 days of preseason scouting we weren't turning many bucks. Opening day came and after hours of hiking a few miles In the pouring rain we found a small fork horn that my wife decided to take. A well placed 350 yard shot and the work began. We got back to camp and skinned and cleaned him up ate and headed back out. A few more miles on foot only to see a few does. Sunday we decided to glass more from the truck due to the rain. About 9:30 we turned up a decent fork horn and my buddy brandon decided to take it. That buck fell to a shot just under 400 yards. After several hours more of glassing some draws and ridges my buddy jesse spotted 2 bucks. We grabbed our packs and headed out to see if we could win the race against the fog and the dark. We started to close the distance quickly and decided to set up for a better look at the smaller buck to see if jesse wanted him. It took several minutes for the buck to show us his rack. After a couple more minutes he decided to take him. His rangefinder says 551. We sail up the scopes check the wind and made our first double ever. Doing a double was a way better idea before all the work had to be done in the dark. It was a late night but the best hunt ever.

What unit where you hunting? I hunted murderers creek unit and it was the best year I have ever seen for hunting. We were seeing 30+ does every day and 4+ bucks daily... Talking with other hunters from other units said they had not seen much for deer though, so must have just been a lucky year.

We were in buelah. A normal day for us there is 15-30 smaller bucks a day. In 2 days we only seen a spike with my wifes the three others we killed and a small3 point that was on private land. We seen 20 or so does and fawns each day but even that is low.

That's a nice hunt for sure.
What packs are you using to pack your rifles with?

We all three use the badlands 2200 series with an eberlestock scabbard on it. I absolutely love the pack. Been using it for about 5 years and every year I like it more. My buddies just got theirs this year after wearing mine last year.
