.338 265 grain Barnes LRX does it in the wind!

Posting for Doublezranch (Jayson) because apparently he broke his fingers and cant type.

Anyway, He sees some does on the ridge, wind was blowing at 9-1 o'clock at 45 mph. Was going to shoot them from 750 yards but didn't have enough adjustment. Closed the distance to 300 yards. Laying prone behind his 338 RUM loaded with the 265 grain Barnes LRX, his spotter reconfirmed at 300 yards, and he touched one off. The doe ran 30 yards to a drainage and fell over backwards. Entrance was the size of his thumb, exit was 2 fingers wide (that's when he broke his fingers). Heart was separated from the aorta.

Just kidding about the broken fingers, just giving him crap for making me post for him!! Lol

Was he really going to attempt a 750 yard shot in a 45 mph wind?

Re: .338 265 grain Barnes LRX does it in the wind!

Now that I'm back from a 10 day hunt, I can answer your question. And the answer to that one is NO!! I was wondering how much wind adjustment I really had in that Nikon and I found out. The wind was blowing like a mother!! When I looked at my wind meeter and it said 45 I just about crapped my pants. That's a good wind in ND but a hurricane or tornado in other parts of the country. I closed the distance to 300 and let fly. Bullet flew true and anchored the deer. Great trip. Thanks to all who helped me decide on that bullet. Thanks Riley for typing it up. I was out of range to make any posts.

Jayson
