What part of ND? There is usually something to hunt wherever you are, but in general deer and coyotes are good everywhere. Pheasants are good most of the state, and lots of other stuff, but location kinda helps find what is the best in that area.

Re: How is the hunting in north Dakota?

North Dakota has many critters to hunt. It all depends on where she is going to live. If she is going to live in the Western part of ND, she can shoot mule deer, goats, bighorn sheep, elk, and whitetail for big game. This is also where you are going to find you highest concentration of sharptail, pheasants and huns. We haven't had a sage grouse season in a few years but they are out there.

Middle of the state is some of the best waterfoul hunting anywhere. Canada's, snows and as many ducks as you can handle. Here is where you are going to find some nice whitetails and moose.

Eastern part of the state is whitetails and some birds and moose.

ND is a great place to hunt and fish. I love living here.

A couple things though. Goat season is closed with no opening in sight for probably 5 years. The mule deer population has been on a steady decline the last 5 years and we just had blue tongue wipe out a lot of whitetails this year. It will be a few years before things rebound.

Echo the Mulie and Antelope sentiment, down significantly. Whitetail are down in the central and west, I think they are doing better in the eastern part of the state. Some brutal winters, disease, very high doe harvests, and 2.5 million acres of CRP coming out the last couple years has taken its toll.

Elk, Moose and Sheep are once in a lifetime draws and as you can imagine very hard to get. Pheasants are down in the northern parts but OK in the southern half. Now for the good news....

Great waterfowl, especially in Central ND, and plenty of Sharptails. Coyotes are everywhere you look. Welcome, and good hunting.

I may be moving to Grand Forks at the end of the year. Are there any/many long range shooters and ranges in the area?
