Original Intent
I only have a mediocre brain, but all one really needs to do is examine other legal documents of the era to determine what the "original intent" of the 2nd amendment was. Many state constitutions that were ratified during the same period as the U.S. Constitution clearly identify an individual right to bear arms. Additionally, if the second amendment didn't guarantee an individual right, why didn't the government immediately begin to confiscate guns? Why did it take over a century's passing before folks realized they knew better what the founder's intended than those who lived during that time?
As for the argument for regulating guns to prevent crime in high-crime areas such as DC, this is simply ludicrous. Those who doubt this should ask why hasn't the current ban in DC significantly lowered its crime rates? Then they should read MORE GUNS LESS CRIME and take a look at what objective research on the subject of guns truly demonstrates.
