Thank you all non-residents for sending your big $$ our way every application season.

With my points, I should be drawing a deer, cow elk, and antelope. Hoping they pick my numbers.

How can you have any points for cow elk if as long as I can remember every year you get a cow elk tag?

Here is a link to the draw odds. It's pretty tough to get a tag until you build preference points. You get one per year per species but as you gain points, Nevada squares them. What I mean by that is if you have one point, you have one chance for your name to be drawn. If you have two points, they square this number giving you four chances to draw a tag. I think they call it "The More You Pay, The More You Play".

Not every year. About every other. But, between my wife, dad, and brother we usually draw a tag or two every year.

Moman,

Thanks for taking what I said the right way. Nevada is a state that relies on non-resident entertainment. Gambling mostly, but some of our smaller towns similarly rely on the hunting seasons to create cash flow. My state definitely has the "The More You Pay, The More You Play" attitude.

That being said, I'm not sure your big $$ is being spent wisely. The deer numbers seem to keep dropping, while the elk numbers seem to be doing very well. Maybe something to do with elk tags costing 4x the price of a deer tag. Sounds like they are very good about maximizing profits.
