Montana Fact Sheet - Montana Wolf Delisting

Wolves are recovered in the Northern Rocky Mountains · The Northern Rocky Mountain gray wolf population met biological recovery criteria in 2002.

· The decision to remove the wolf from the federal Endangered Species List takes effect Friday, March 28, but legal challenges are already underway.

· In the meantime, FWP and the respective Indian Tribes are now the lead agencies for wolf conservation and management in Montana.

I have packed meat just outside Yellowstone for two years now and have yet to see a wolf. Tracks yes, shootable wolves ,no. It's the damn Grizzly's that give us the most worrys.

the grizzly.

What does the law say when you can kill the griz? for protection,
after he has eatin one or two of your arms, legs ?

Apparently you can only kill them after you find somebody's body part, then it's ok.

Probably no elk either, I spend some time on the northern border of the park. The wolves keep you up, or at least wake you up every night. I do see them. The elk hunting is poor these days. better off packing a fishing rod then a rifle. I guess I am chicken to shoot due to the fact that with less elk there are more eyes in the woods to see "illegal " activity. If all goes well, legally, I will post my pictures this fall of dead wolves. My wife will get one, my dead grampa will get one, my unborn kid will get one, do you want one? lol
