Turkey Hunting Video - Population Trends In Wisconsin
I attended the Wisconsin Deer Classic and Hunting Expo in Green Bay last weekend. I saw many fine examples of the best taxidermy imaginable. I attended a seminar on dog training. And then I had a chat with Ken Jaworski, Wisconsin chapter director of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

I don't understand the relationship to LRH. I know this is your site but it seems like off topic stuff like this and bowhunting tend to dilute the site and make it just like every other hunting site, which it's not.

In South Dakota you can shoot them with a .223 so Turkey hunting can be part of long range hunting. It depends on your states laws. I would love to bag a turkey at 4-500 yards and for some of you that are good shots even farther.

In Maryland you can shoot a turkey in the Fall but not in the spring with a centerfire rifle. Three years ago I had a flock of turkeys patterned and they were coming down to the river in the late afternoon to get a drink and I was going to shoot one at 300-500 yards. Wouldn't you know it, but it rained the night before and the turkeys didn't need to come for a drink.

Fair question. All long range hunters have a life that includes many other outdoor pursuits. We have such a great community attitude here. My goal is to satisfy some of the other interests we all have without having to go to one of those other general hunting sites so often. As for dilution, the goal isn't to bring turkey hunters here...if they have no interest in long range hunting. And the more members we satisfy, the more activity and posts we will have in the core long range sections. Go back a few years on this forum and notice how many fewer posts we had talking about 635 yard mule deer kills. Today we have twice as many of those core posts. As our traffic grows we will have many more long range threads to interest you and others. And I don't think you, as an example, are posting or reading less in the core areas just because you spent 2 minutes of your time in the Turkey forum. But I appreciate your comment. |
