Wife's Monster Hog-Texas

The wife finally put a nice hog on the ground. She has been working pretty hard for one and all the hours paid off.

She was hunting with her AR-15 in 7.62X39. Lately the hogs have been coming in earlier than normal, they’ve been very nocturnal. The big lone boar came in about 5pm, but wouldn’t give Lucrecia a decent shot. He would almost clear the brush then turn back into the thick stuff. This game went on for almost 30 minutes; her nerves were nearly shot when he finally committed to coming in.

She was able to gather her self and made a perfect shot low just behind the ear. After the last incident tracking a hog (she was attacked by my bow shot hog...a story of it's own), she decided she would stay ready for a possible follow up if the hog tried to get up. But it was “game over” and no follow up shots were needed.

Her hog is one of the largest we’ve killed on the lease in the last 18 years and I bet it was pushing 300lbs. He was quite a load for the wife I to get into the truck too.

Here they are…sorry for all the blood, but the camera’s battery was nearly dead and only had enough juice to take a couple pics before it bit the dust!

Nice lookin hog I have always wanted to shoot one of those critters, we dont have any here in SW Colorado. Are they good eating? Your wife looks very happy

Yes they are very good on the table. The only exception is actively breeding boars. They taste like boar hogs smell. As long as they are loners and not with a heard they are fine. I was still a little concerned about this one, but he will be fine.

BTW-she was attacked by a boar hog I bow shot during bow season. I got the liver and one lung. The hog still lived almost an hour. I was doing the tracking while she kept the last spot...when she seen him ahead of us. It had circled around...I'm guessing to watch his back trail. When she called out that it was still alive it charged her. My wife normally carries a XD tactical in 45GAP, but forgot it and was carrying her 44mag. She couldn't break leather in time and he knocked her down and rooting her around...then climbed up on her thigh. She was able to hit in the nose to stop the attack. I was yelling for her to shoot it, but she was lying on her gun side . Anyway when she got up she one handed a shot at him, which ended up breaking a bone in her hand.

She really enjoyed eating that rack of ribs!

nice boar captnc thats going to make a lot of sausage and tamales sure wish my wife had a interest in hunting.elkstalker there are hogs in the tx panhandle now so its only a matter of time before they show up where your at and they are very good eating

I dont think they will show up here, can they live in subzero cold and snow and mountains????? Maybe some day I will get a chance to go south for some fun shootin at them

Yep, Russian boars live in the wilds of Russia and Siberia. There are some great Russian boar hunting areas in the northern tier states.
