Re: What weapon better to hunt hog

I prefer broadheads. I've taken one with a 10mm revolver, but my son shot one with a 44 mag. and tracked him over three miles and had to shoot him 4 times to kill him. broadheads work like magic!

One, shot"..., .44 Mag'..., 3 miles'..., 4 more shots to kill him'..., I don't believe thats a caliber or bullet failure.

Shotgun? Heard of knifes, pistols, bows and rifle git r done.

357 as a favorite for pistol due to penetration
For rifle, it depends on the bullet selection. Just about any caliber will work.

Re: What weapon better to hunt hog

I use bolt action rifles, in 243 to 308. The trick is to see how many you can kill before they are out of sight. In my area I usually hunt from a tree house intermittent large oaks with shots 0-325 yards. When confronted with a herd of hogs, I wait till they get bunched up or far away from the brush as possible. Picking out the largest one first in the ear or neck. Then the fun begins in 360 degrees each one trying his best not to get shot. AR platform is excellent way to clean up a number. The bolt rifle gives you 3, 4, 5 shots if you are an accomplished shooter you get the first one maybe a 2nd possibly a third, unless you have had the fortune to line up several and get more than one per shot! Patience and accurate shooting are necessary. Head on shooting is discouraged as the forehead is extremely hard and the bullet may not penetrate but only stun the hog till you walk up to it and it charges you.

Good Luck on your hunt.
