PED Hog Virus

Reading from multiple articles it looks like the PED virus is coming to Texas and will hit the wild hog population in a big way. It will severely limit the population growth of feral hogs for a long period of time by killing the young pigs. It is 80 to 100% fatal for baby pigs. It seems that only natural immunity will save them and that will take numerous years for the herd to rebuild. The virus in now in Oklahoma and the upper Texas panhandle and moving south with the wind.

I've got mixed emotions on this;

I like shooting hogs.

I will enjoy not having the damage that comes with them.

Darn, I sure did want a rifle like djones to shoot hogs with. Can't justify it now.....

Re: PED Hog Virus

Every where I read they are talking about how bad PEDV is and how many pigs it has killed. Bacon is over 20% higher now than just a few months ago but I'm not seeing any damage to the wild hogs. The group my grand daughter shot into had 25 to 30 little pigs and quite a few older pigs as well. This is the first sounder that I have seen in several months and they all looked very healthy.

So much for my prediction, maybe I'll take up weather next! Probably do just as good. NOT!
