Long time hunter. Used to shoot international skeet competitively. Reformed upland game hunter. Left corporate sales and made the "grand simplification move" from the western suburbs of Chicago in 2001 and haven't regretted it. Live in the woods, work for an aircraft manufacturer in the tooling dept., knifemaker (new model coming out in 3 weeks), 2 kids (daughter just finished hunter safety and bought her first hunting license - big game tags this summer after she turns 12), son is 9 and is itching to hunt. Longest shot was on a Hartmann Zebra in Namibia at 554 yards. Also bowhunt. I appreciate being a part of this forum as it is full of great info.

Sounds like you made the right decision for you and it turned out great. Glad to hear your kids are interested and that they're getting a good start in the sport.

You need to post some pics of your knives. Lots of people around here like knives.

Welcome to the site. I have a daughter who lives in your neck of the woods. Far cry from Chicago. You could just about put Coeur d'Alene in the McCormick Center. Have always loved northern Idaho. Your kids are going to grow up in a great place. I also think it would be great to see some of your knives.

Mark, welcome. I have heard that of all the African countries, Namibia is the place to go for long range hunting.

Welcome to the forums, Mark. I am still new here myself but I love reading the board daily. I don't have the money most of these guys have but I can always dream about all of the rifles/set-ups a LOT of them seem to have.

I sure appreciate the support. We sure feel blessed to live here....well other than the 2 months this winter of not being able to see out the windows due to the snow depth. Great kids, great wife (also a shooter who plans on taking her first elk this year) and lots of land to hunt.

Have been working on a brand new EDC fixed blade that will be great for anyone needing a handy knife. Kydex multi-carry sheath (right, left - correct handed in our family, neck, or horizontal). 3" D2 blade, G10 scales, couple of finish choices...all under the soon to be unveiled R2 Knives website. Will post a pic soon after I send the final prototype to Terrill Hoffman for pictures.

Enough self promotion, truly didn't join for that reason.

In the process of putting together my daughters first rifle - lefty Tikka T3 Lite in .270 WSM with brake from Shawn and limbsaver pad. Still not locked into a scope choice. Have been trolling this forum for the last 3 weeks trying to decide. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Absolutely fell in love with Namibia. Had I been a single guy, I would not have come back to the states. I've traveled all over the world and never got a sense of a place feeling just right as I got from those 10 days in Namibia. Hunted on a small cattle ranch (10,000 acres) with standard barbed wire fences and nothing but glassing and fair chase. Took a beautiful kudu and gemsbok and ate as much of both as I could. For long range stuff, the rancher asked me to shoot as many baboons as I wanted (200-700 yards shots). Apparently the little nasties are damned destructive. Didn't take him up on it, but it would have been sniper paradise.
