Re: Moose calibre?

I have seen moose shot with everything from 25-06 to a 375 h&h.I would not suggest the 25 ,but he only went 50 yards .The 375 did not act like it had been hit even though his heart was in 3 pieces. The one with the rifle on the rack was the one taken with the 375.The other one was with an 06 and dropped in his tracks. He used 180gr partition.

Re: Moose calibre?

I've been hunting moose for more than 40 years and I've dumped a bunch of them, with everything from a 22lr to a 375 H&H. The most recent one was with a 338-378 Wby with a 300 gr SMK. The 06 or the 7mm will do fine on any moose, just use quality ammo and place your shots well.

I have been fortunate enough to Harvest Moose in Scandinavia. MANY of the locals use the 6.5 swede! I have never seen on drop by a 22lr as the last poster states. Remember the internet has made everyone a pro over night. I wonder how this is going to rocket through the internet and start a craze to hunt moose with a 22lr?

I wouldn't recommend hunting moose with a 22lr and it wasn't something that I planned but due to unexpected circumstances it happened. I was close I had an ideal shot in that situation and the moose dropped instantly.

Maine has the 22 mag listed as a legal caliber for moose.I do not know anyone who has used it ,but I am sure someone has.

Re: Moose calibre?

Most of the moose that I have harvested have been with various 300 mags, 300 Win mag, 300 Wtby mag and 300 RUM. Here is a pic from one of our hunts.
