Sitka Gear

I am looking at getting some new outerwear. I had my eye on some of the stuff made by Sitka. I was wondering if anybody has tried it out or knows anything about Sitka gear? Or if you have any other recomendations on good outerwear? I am not afriad to pay a bit more for good gear so long as I know it will preform.

Re: Sitka Gear

from what I've heard Sitka is extremly good gear, but it comes for more than a "bit" extra. At least from where I've seen it you can drop $1k CAD on just a good pant/jacket combo. Mind you thats the cold weather stuff. Im content with my army surplus gear.

Re: Sitka Gear

I can't say enough about Sitka gear ... the stuff is awesome. I have a couple sets that I have bought at the end of the year on closeout. If you are really serious I know a place right now that has is at 20% off.

I have not worn any of the new real warm stuff. I have put together gear that works for spot and stalk here in our canyons. It is great if you are moving ... very giving material and very light weight. I love the way that it is designed so you can access pockets without removing your pack.

This year I tried out one of the Sitka packs and hauled two hind quarters and one back strap of a whitetail out of a nasty canyon with no problem. It might be a little small for an elk hunt ... unless you boned it out.

You won't regret buying Sitka ... !

Re: Sitka Gear

Thanks fellas for the info! I think I may bite the bullet on getting some of it. What do you suggest type I get? The 90degree, ascent, or Celsius style? I will be hunting mid to late November for elk in Montana(I know hard to believe with my user name). I like to do alot of spot and stalk hunting and occasionally just "sit and wait" hunting.

Gettn2- Where is it that has the 20% off deal? Right now Cabelas is having some great deals and I was curious if anybody was matching/beating those prices?

3toes- Camofire is pretty cool. i have it bookmarked and now I am witing for the right stuff to come along.

Thanks for the help guys!

Re: Sitka Gear

Depending on the size you need Bryans Archery in Lewiston Idaho is offering 30% off Sitka right now (208) 746-7977. You might also try Bill Pellegrino's Archery Hut in CO (719) 638-0554. He sometimes has some clearance items.

I personally prefer to go light and layer. I can always take off a layer if I get a little warm. I do have some places that I do wear my 90% stuff if I am just sitting. Most of the time I just layer under my Ascent pants and zip-t's.

A midweight vest is great for layering. I often just wear it when the temps rise in the afternoon and have worn it under the rain gear for a little extra warmth.

I have worn a lot of different gear over the years and to this day ... Sitka is the best. This years camo is awesome and the new materials are supposed to be even better. Good luck!
