We went to Dolores last season and what a mess. We rented a travel trailer that we hadnt seen. We had called the City and asked for numbers of people who rented them. We called a few and my cousin spoke to one gentleman who said he was an outfitter and guided some hunts there. so he rented the trailer from him. When we got there, we went to pick it up and it was ungodly. It was made in about 65 and the interior had been ripped out and four wooden bunk beds built in. It had the old roll out windows and none sealed. The power was by a 12 volt car battery that was dead when we got there lol. After the first night we taped the windows over with duct tape and plastic. After the 3rd day, we had a cow hanging and a game warden stopped by and checked us. When he looked at the plates on the trailer, they were for a car and he arrested the outfitter and took our trailer. We ended up with just our one wall tent we had put up outside. 4 of in there with al the gear and elk! It was a miserable experience to say the least. Oh and my dumb cousin forgot to leave proof of sex on the carcass. He quartered it up and kept the milk glands lying on one of the hindquarters. Big no-no, he got a 250 dollar fine and got of cheap with that. Game warden knew we were a bunch of Tx boys and took mercy on him!
From now on, I pack the tents.

your co. elk hunt sounded terrible.

a few of us over on the falfiles get together for an annual elk hunt between bayfield,co. and pagosa springs, co.
i have a 36 foot fifth wheel with bunk house, satelite tv, microwave, forced air heating,a/c, refrig, stove, etc...
when i shopped last year for a new camper i checked alot out, i ended up buying an outback model.
most everything including the furnace runs off 12v, in case the honda generator dies. i have 2 solar panels for recharging if needed, or plug into the pickup.

that's base camp, we hike every day to the top, around,accross, thru everywhere we can during the day. if we are tired, we sit legally off the road and watch a mountain side as the sun sets, relaxing before going back to dinner and a movie.
no, we do not rough it, and we do get elk...

it's all about getting old and having a good time with friends.... we really don't care if we kill something or not.
one guy even flies in every year from england, 3 from tx. 1 from va., and me from nm.

We really Ruff it on our Elk hunts.
We have camp set up for 6 to 8 weeks
every year because of Turkey hunts,
Deer hunts,Cow and Bull hunts.
The local Wildlife Manager (who stops in
just about every day for a cold soda)
Was teasing us about needing a mail box
since we were there for so long so I made
a mail box for Camp
