Re: Choice in Knives ?
No gut hook on any of my knives. Good lock blade 4inches and a fillet knife 8 inches is what I use. I like Puma, Buck, Gerber or custom knives.

Re: Choice in Knives ?
I like Havalon prianta knives. They are super sharp and light weight. They are no good for prying.

+1 on the Havalon products. Stay sharp a long time and are really light.

Re: Choice in Knives ?
Outdoor edge flip and zip and a havalon(with extra blades) are the only knives in my pack. I would never use anything else
I also carry a bench made bone collector Axis folder in my pocket.
All of these hold a edge very well and sharpen easy.
THe zip side of the flip and zip id very fast and does not clog up like lots of gut hooks do

Re: Choice in Knives ?
I'm very bad to lose knives, therefore, I don't buy expensive knives. I've had good luck with Gerbers. I carry several, a couple on my belt and one or two in my pack. They sharpen and hold an edge reasonably well. If I lose one, it's not the end of the world. I don't use a gut hook, though I may have to try one of those "Flip & Zip" deals.

I was too. I learned to stop buying everything camo. If it is an accessory; radio, sharpener, knife, rangefinder, I want them to be neon colors. The havalons come in blaze orange. They are pretty tough to leave behind. If I could stop losing 2 or 3 beanies a year I'd be set.
