Hunting In Idaho?

This is my first real year of searching for a buck and I have no idea where to hunt. I need some advice on where to hunt. I have scouted a few areas but have not had any luck spotting a lot of deer at once. I don't know which area is best to hunt. I live in boise but don't care to drive a ways to the hunting ground. Any advice would help.

That's gonna put you in unit 39, be prepared for competitive hunting. I've had fair luck up above Arrowrock Res. There aren't a lot of roads up at the higher elevations so you find yourself either competing with the rest of Boise for the few areas where you can access the high country by vehicle or hunting from the river up and it is steep country. I've found a few corridors which the deer use to move to water in the early morning and have scored a couple of bucks sitting and glassing at first light. The hunting will get better as you approach the last few days of the season and the rut. Good luck.

Thanks, Well turn of events. I am actually going to be hunting up in northern idaho this coming week in area 11 but my fall back for later in the season will be 39 or 35.

So if i get a Whitetail Tag will that be for Unit 1 and 2 or are they two different tags?

If you buy the Whitetail Tag that entitles you to hunt in Whitetail only seasons that run clear into Dec, unit 11 opens Oct 2 and closes Dec 1. If you purchase the Regular Deer Tag you can hunt in unit 11 starting Oct 2 but it closes Nov 3. Either way Unit 11 is a whitetail only unit, you can't shoot a mule deer. I'd double check with IDF&G but that is what I gleaned from the online synopsis available here

I've never hunted Id. but my brother lives there in Boise and I've spent a lot of time exploring the area. If I was gonna hunt out of Boise on a day to day deal, I'd head up toward Twin Springs/Atlanta area. I've seen some good bucks up in that area. as was stated before that is Steep country, but where in Id. is it not steep, well other than the potatoe fields??? Another area I'd try would be on the interstate heading out of Boise, I guess it is east? but anyway about the first or second exit, go left up that road and when it forks take the road to the left, it may be dirt there or shortly after the turn off it goes to dirt..can't remember,,,anyway, it leads, well to nowhere really, but I think it is BLM land up there and I've seen really big mule deer up that way....I mean wall hangin' monsters!!!!

It really begins and ends with unit 45. Not big bucks but the hugest there is. VERY hard to draw on but there are a few landowner permits to be bought. If a person wants to see them and take some venison home put in for the doe hunt. Long range can be had and of coarse short range is always avail, easy hunt with 3 different seasons in the 2013 year.
