California pig hunt 2012

The brown one I took at 90 yrds coming at me I had no choice. The black one was out at 487. I'm 6'8" when I strung him up on the hooks his back feet were at eye level and his nose touched the ground.

Re: California pig hunt 2012

Thank you for the comments. I love pig hunting. The meals that come after are the rewords I look forward to. And thanks for the complements on the camo I did it myself. I did it the right way and it is taking the abuse well and shows no signs of abuse.

In what part of Calif. were you hunting? Was it on public or private lands? I have read on the Calif. F&G site that 95% of tags returned were on private land.

Yes, very nice camo job- looks like it was done by a pro. What caliber is that?

I'm chompin at the bit to go pig hunting here, but having a hard time deciding on the best public lands. Private lands with guided hunts are easy to find but of course drives up the cost big time.

Shootin4fun= Thank you for the complement on the camo it makes me feel good to know others think it looks good. I was worried at first to paint my rifle but once it was done I loved it. This is a Remington 700 30-06. I was hunting in Monterey on private land. Yes it is a little more pricy but I didn't have to deal with the general public all going after the same pig. There is no guarantee to get one or two but at least I know I won’t have to worry about others shooting me also.

Perfect rig for the pigs! I haven't been out on public or private lands hunting up there but I've driven around a lot so I don't know how much pressure there is on public lands. Is that in the Condor Zone - lead free ammo?

I'm hoping to go to Ft. Tejon in the next month or so. Planning on using a 270 Win load I developed with 130 gr Barnes TSX.
