so whats your point?

i couldnt help myself not responding to you any longer. why did you pick this particular thread to post a smarmy reply to? did you even read any of it? this website is all about the free exchange of information concerning long range shooting, do you even belong in that discussion? if you do , then i say welcome, but you really should learn a little about spelling and grammer before you jump into some of the discussion here because to be real honest, you sound like an idiot. Jerry, great article. I am going too take your advice and build a stevns 7 mag shooting 168 berger vld(.643bc) for elk, deer and bear. But in order to make sure you have answered ever possible question on this subject here is a handfull more.

1.I called savage and they don't sell stevens without the barrel. Do you know of anywhere that does sell stripped stevens?
2.The cheapest super macth grade prefit barrel I can find is pac nar at $405 does that sound right?
3.Would you recomend a different barrel manufacture like shilen, krieger or mcgowen?
4.Do you have a picture of a arrow bedded stock and the muzzle break you recomend in the article that you could post?
5.Do you perfer the 4200 elite in 4-16 power or 6-24 power for both long range hunting and shooting?
6.When you get ready to shoot, you dial for wind drift and then use your mill dot reticle for quick adjustements right?
Thanks for all of your time and advice,

Gabe

I was also wondering if you need any special tools to attach a prefit barrel on a stevens action? besides the go guage?

Thanks again,
Gabe

Any quality manf will offer you a barrel to suit our LR hunting needs. Shilen, Pac Nor, McGowen and some others just make the process easier with prefit barrels.

You will need a barrel wrench to tighten the barrel nut (acts as a jam nut).

I have been using the 6X24 for years. Love the mil dot reticle but any quality optics will work.

As for wind, I try and hunt under conditions where dialing is not necessary. If winds are high enough to matter, there can be alot of different air between you and the target.

I usually just hold off using the reticle on the game. Much more windage then that and I usually get closer or pass on the shot.

Your ability to dope winds will determine your limits. Some will use a spotter shot some distance from the game to confirm their windage and elevation - a very good idea if possible.

This is something that you will have to answer for yourself.

The brake I use is a Miculek brake that you can find at Brownells and other dealers. It is a 3 chamber gill design. Just open up to suit your cal.

I buy complete rifles as bare actions are not available in Canada. NSS should be able to help you in the US.

NO pics on the stock reinforcements but you can google as there are lots on the net.

Jerry
