economy lrh rifle

I am just about finished with my version. It is based on a Tikka T3 Lite. I have opened the forend slightly and filled the cavity in the stock tikka stock with high density foam.(better stock later) . I have a Rock 26" barrel and am waiting for Bushnell 2.5X16X42 elite 6500. Hope this is enough scope. Caliber is 300 Win mag. Reckon this will come close to doing the job?

thanks again Jerry....

just another thank you on such an informative , well written article. Using your advice i have finished my build, and i am a happy camper. specs are as follows:
stevens 200 action
douglas premium 26" SS barrel, chambered in 6X284
boyds pepper laminate thumbhole stock
went with the factory trigger after i re-worked it
still saving my pennies for a premium scope, so for now i am using an el-cheapo 10X

i started with a mild load of IMR 4350 for barrel breakin and load development. my first 2 shots were sighters....the next three all went into a clover leaf that measured .35" CTC. i have settled on a load of 45.5 grs of h-4350 with a ww primer and a 107 gr SMK. it is what i would call a mild load with no extreme pressure signs. MV is right at 3250 fps. i shot a group of 3 @ 300 yds that were all touching, and a 1/2 gal milk jug is not safe at 500 yds. i have a steel plate all welded up and ready to set out at 650 yds at first light tomorrow. i am pleased beyond words. thanks again for all your advice and encouragement. AJ

You'er Welcome

Flacracker, I am sure the Tikka will do what you want. 16X is not too much mag in the field. We just need to engage the game, not see how much plaque is building in their molars.

Plus the lower mag will give you a much bigger field of view which is important to see conditions and possibly another 'better' animal.

As long as you can bisect an object the size of a gallon milk jug at your furthest distance, you have enough magnification.

dogdinger, that sounds like a great fun rig. Enjoy pounding the gong at 650yds. I bet in a week or so, that gong will shrink by at least 1/3, maybe even half.

If you have the elevation and space, try further out. 1000yds will not seem that far away for plinking and 1 mile is well within the bullets capabilities.

Enjoy guys...

Jerry

Will the Accutrigger fit on the Stevens action?

Will the SSS or Rifle Basix triggers fit on the Savage Accutrigger actions?

Can you get *good* long action stocks for the Savage/Stevens?

Something like H-S, B&C, or even a good Laminate?

How do the 10/110FP shoot without messing with the stock?
