Started not to post, (not big game) but 2 feral hogs out of ~ a dozen between 300-500 yds (running as fast as they could). Used a metric FAL semiauto (.308 Win) with a 10X Super Sniper. Got off 8 shots. They were running because I had opened up on them at ~ 125 yds. Only got off 4 shots before they got behind cover. Got 1 of them then and the last 2 out on the hill a couple of minutes later, after they cleared cover. Total 3 for 12 shots.

Hard to hit the boogers when they're in the "holy $#*!" mode, but exciting. I hunt from a weatherproof blind and I had hulls bouncing and clanging around off of me and just about everything else in it. I went back the next morning, but didn't see anything but buzzards. Hogs ain't dumb.

I'm going to try an AR hvy barrel with 62 gr ball next time. Less recoil and muzzle flash. Faster recovery between shots. I doubt it's as effective, though. That 168gr M852 ammo is hog poison.

It must be true, I,m easy to entertain. Tom

875 Muley Buck

875 yds. Muley Buck.

Took me 15 minutes to decide he was a buck and another 15 minutes to dope the shot (this is pre-technology assisted shooting days, no laser range finder, no palm pilot ballistics program, no internet ...). Ended up with an outside spread of 34.5" Taken with a factory Rem700 7mm Rem Mag. 154gr spire point.l First shot through top of heart. And yes, it was one of the 2 luckiest shots I've ever taken.

Muley buck was taken last year at 618 yards with a Rem 700 BDL 7 RM, 168g VLD @ 2950fps. 1 high shoulder shot was all it took. Dropped like a rock and got some good video footage!! 168g VLD did some massive damage as well.
