Not saying you should do this, but I used a new brass as a go gauge and put a piece of tape on the base of it for a no-go gauge and it worked fine for me.

that is how I head space also.

I put 2 layers of scotch tape on the end of the case. push the slide forward and screw the barrel on until it touches the case.

to double check if it is tight enough it should close easily with 1 piece of tape and not be able to close with 3 layers of tape.
