Trigger installation problem
I received a new Jewell HVR trigger today for my Rem #7.
Everything looked good but I had a problem. The leading (lower) edge of the trigger housing is less rounded than the factory Rem trigger. When installed, you can not put the bottom metal back on the rifle because the forward section of the trigger guard hits it. I tried to relieve the trigger guard but there is not sufficient material to do so. Any further removal of the trigger guard material will put a hole into the small chamber which houses the magazine latch pin & spring.
I can't be the first guy to run into this problem. Suggestions?????

Re: Trigger installation problem
VH, It seems there is not a bottom metal made that is not relieved in this area for the jewel trigger. Even Seekin's bottom metal makes contact at that area.
I see where the model 7 is a problem, on a 700 or a custom 700 clone there is enough room to mill out the trigger gaurd to fit, I'll look at my model 7 with factory trigger to see if there is a way to make somthing work.

Re: Trigger installation problem
Coyboy,
Thanks for the input. I'd be interested in whatever you can find. For the time being I relieved the trigger guard to the extent that I breeched the pocket for the magazine latch and spring. This made the latch inoperative but the bottom metal does fit without interferrence with the Jewell trigger. I'd like to replace the bottom metal with one that will work with the new trigger.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks - Charlie

I just called Jewell. They said that they are unaware of any fit problems with their Rem model 7 triggers and factory bottom metal. They said no one has ever notified them of a problem before.
Hmmmmmm?

Re: Trigger installation problem
VH, I just milled out Seekins and Kwik clips to fit the Jewel triggers. I looked at factory 700 bottom metal, and it apears there is room for the trigger, but I did not try and fit one.
The model 7 bottom metal. is as you describe, it seems there is not enough room and milling out for the trigger disrupts the plunger. Now how do we fix it? May-be we can come up with somthing, Kirby has probably seen this one before and has an easy fix.

I'd be most interested in whatever Kirby has to say on this one. It sounds like you and I are the only two people to be aware of the problem. I wonder what was done for all the other Rem model 7 Jewell triggers???????????
