Totally non gun related but kinda neat

I'm a giant scale RC airplane 3D addict.

We are hosting a big fly in at the Buffalo Chip Campground Sept 11, 12, 13.

Black Hills Air Rally

I offered to donate some (which has turned into a pile) machine time to whittle up the trophies.

Here's a toolpath simulation of what I came up with. It's running now. These are 5" OD X 1/2" thick annealed brass plates.

They started out as just a sort of plaque to hang on the wall but I've since then come up with the idea of having them be coasters for some nice beer mugs that will also be engraved. Just something different. At most of these events you get a $3.00 plastic trophy.

Thanks for lookin.

Chad

And (drum roll please) here's a finished one:

Awesome, if I won something like that, I'd never put a mug on it!

I've won plaques, medals and trophies (shooting related), and only one of them is even in the same ballpark as that trophy.

    Nicely done!

Wow. They're bigger than I would have guessed... look really well done!

How long did it take to create the vector graphic for engraving and milling the rest of the shape?

    regards

    Programming was relatively easy.

Just a matter of generating the geometry and then assigning tool paths.

Machine time was long because of the island pockets (raised text) I had to use a .0625" endmill and with a spindle speed of 4,000 I can't push very hard.

Took about 2 hours per part all told.

They are 5" in diameter and 1/2" thick.

    Thanks for the kind words.
