Savage Target Crown
What's so special about this muzzle crown is this best target crown for accuracy?
By the way how's barrel looking, anything I should be concern about?

Re: Savage Target Crown
There are many good crowns and there is nothing special about this one because it looks like
a recessed 11o crown. In fact it looks like it needs to be re done because the edge of the bore
is not sharp and it looks rough.
Any good crown is uniform and clean and even if one does a "Bench rest" crown and it is not
done correctly It will hurt accuracy.
The only other thing that I see that is not desirable it the tool marks in the groves(Chatter)
that run perpendicular to the bullet travel. This condition can cause early fouling and should
have been lapped out or rejected.
Sorry for the not so good news.
I am sure that someone can post a realy nicely done crown (I Can't) for your reference.

Re: Savage Target Crown
Thank you J E CUSTOM , I was wondering why it fouls so heavily, and I get unexplained fliers. I think this one need to go back to the factory, oh well I had so much hope for this stick...

Re: Savage Target Crown
I don't have a macro lens. So, I can't share a nice photo. But, my Savage 12F 6.5x284 has a lot of rounds down it and the bore as well as the crown look a lot cleaner and sharper without the tool marks that JE noted.
What model Savage is yours and how many rounds?

Re: Savage Target Crown
Richard that's new Long Range Precision model 12 Target in 260 Rem 1:8 twist and very short freebore, seating 140 gr Nosler CC makes 2.760" MAX, maybe I purchased totally rejected rifle, but how distributer got hold of them??? I only had 80 rounds down, one session 40 and another 40, I did 5 shot clean, the last 20 I fired with no cleaning took me like 1.5 hours to get copper out with KG-12 and brush.

I'm not sure where Savage draws the line. But, I doubt it was a factory reject.
How well is it shooting for you?

Re: Savage Target Crown
here is last group 5 shots from those 20 I fired at 300 yards it shoots better out of clean barrel but on shot # 7-8 I start to get fliers.
Here is 100 yard group clean barrel, notice POI moves upward to the left:
Next 5 shots POI stays the same for another 2 shots then its allover:
