Savage barrel swap problem?

Not possible if the action was held on the front bridge like most action wrenches are made to do.

Grabbing the action offers much more surface area than on the barrel.

    I suspect that the action was held wrong.

    I use the barrel vice and the action wrench on most actions. but on the Savage it is not
    nessary to use a action wrench and with the poster sounding like he did not want to spend
    the money holding the barrel is the easy way.

    If the barrel is to be disposed of then he can just use a bench vice to hold the barrel for
    disassembly and only have to buy a $30.00 wrench.

    It is allways best to have the proper tools.

    skip the barel vise,
    2 pipe wrenches usually do the trick.

    Thank you guys for all the replies! I may try to get the blocks to hold the action, if not may end up buying an action wrench....

    To whoever asked if I had a barrel nut wrech yes I do. It'll be a little while before I can work on it sadly....
