Remingtion Quality

I have been a long time fan of Remingtions and like every one else
at one time or another been disapointed in some of the quality
issues with them but have never had one that could not be

And I have seen the same type of problems with all of the other
manufactures at times.

It appears that they move in cycles (up and down) from a quality

But the good news is that they appear to be going up in quality, and
with all of the trends of plastic stocks(Tupperware) and cheep finishes
(paint insted of bluing) the last 5 or 6 actions have been very well
machined and fit has been very good.

The last few have had 85%+ bolt lug contact and laped in very fast. Also
bolt fit has been very good. Bolt face's have been square to withen -.001
also actions have been within .0015 or less of square on the face.

I will always grind/lap the recoil lug and they have been within .0005
insted of .001 or .002 .

It's nice to see this kind of quality for a change so I though I would share
my observations with all who are interested.

These are new actions (1 to 2 years old) and even though I blueprint all
actions it makes me happy when I find a really good one.

And the short actions like the model 7 and the model 673 appear to be the
best of all.

Just a heads up for all of the Remingtion fans

That's good to hear. I've had some that checked in and cleaned up all surfaces within .001" - .002" rather well but none of them had threads that ran concentric.
Now if only we could get Remington to start selling just the actions again so we didn't have to buy the whole damn gun and tear it apart just for the action.light bulb

You don't here that kind of news from many smiths. It's usually oh you need to spend at least $3000.00 to get that thing to shoot. Thanks for the info.
