Nervous about bedding my rifle...

I really want to learn how to pillar bed a stock and bed an action. I just bought a Savage 111 .270 with a laminate stock that would be a great opportunity to learn. I have called every gunsmith near me (eastern PA) and no one is willing or has the time. I'd rather learn from someone that has done it before, and that has all the tools necessary.

How did you learn to bed? Did someone teach you, or did you watch instructional videos? Is this process easier than I think it is? Any suggestions for learning?

Thanks! Happy holidays!

Re: Nervous about bedding my rifle...

Do some searches on here.

Use the google search in the upper right of the forum screen.

Here's the first hit I came up with.

Bedding A Rifle

For the pillars simply follow the instructions that come with.

The secret is the release agent. The anxiety peaks when the barreled action doesn't simply fall out of the stock after setting the appropriate time. BTW, it never simply falls out, the first time.

I use a paste wax such as minwax. Have been using the same can for years.

If you can hang a picture on the wall, square you can do this.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!!!

Re: Nervous about bedding my rifle...

PM me your phone number and I'll either walk you through the process, or you can come watch me do a complete pillar bedding job.

I hate the fact that most guys think this is some kind of super secret voodoo stuff, and are not willing to help or teach a guy.
