Need some help looking for opnions/ideas for scout rifle build
Guys I have it in mind to build a scout rifle. The rifle will be a 308 winchester. I was thinking of using a surplus military rifle action to utilize the stripper clip guide for charging the mag. The idea around this rifle is a hunter/defence rifle. Looking to put Iron sights on it and use them as back ups or co witness.
What do you think a good action would be? Mauser, enfield, 1903 etc... tell me what you think.

Check out the new Ruger Gunsite scout. It is the best factory scout rifle yet.

Hay finaly someone replied ya. On the Ruger seen it not impressed, not a Ruger fan. Its lacking alot in my opnion and I hate the my M77 action.
But thanks for the heads up. Right now its on hold but if it comes down to using a new action it will be a HOWA or FN. I realy want it to use M14 mags and have a stripper clip guide.

I understand completely. I have had my share of bad experiences with them, but that seemed to be the best affordable production attempt to date. The Steyr was so overpriced it was just rediculous.
If at all possible, go with the FN action, the newest ones that are essentially a Winchester M-70. I got one from CDNN. A while back they had both barreled actions and bare action as well. It is an excellent action but wont accomodate teh stripper clips.

Yes If I had the cash I would just get the FN from CDNN. I got a 300 wsm FN from CDNN and I love it. CDI and Manners make bottom metal for 10rnd ACIS mags.

If your looking for a Scout type rifle with in .308 Win that has a stripper feed capability and uses a M14 mag 20, 10 or 5 round. And also mounts scout style scope ahead of the action. Why mess around? Just get a M1A Springfield Scout Squad or the SOCOM 16. Me, I like the Scout Squad in O.D
I have a Standard Service NM that shoots rings around most my center fire rifles. There not a bolt, but... if you’re going to require a bolt scout rifle to do all of the aforementioned; you might as well have a semi auto. I’ve shot against a few guy’s shooting these M1A’s Scout rifles in running deer matches and they are just about unbeatable in those type of matches.

Good luck.

Savage has a DBM Scout with accutrigger and accustock.....might be an option for you.
