It is like the 308 but has a rimmed case so it feeds and ejects properly. He's like the Grizzly guys. Nonneman Custom Rifles - Fine quality firearms for the discriminating shooter... I load the 308 win and he said I could use the same dies. Marlin actions are great and he's going to slick mine up and do a trigger job. It will provide me with another lever option for deer and pigs, black bear and such. MORE MONEY, MORE GUNS.

I'm an addict. I sold 2 rifles last month and bout 4 more by accident. Make it 5 now.

Got any 308 hunting bullets you like? I'm thinking this will run maybe in the 2500-2600 max range. Pointed ok as I'm going to try and build some loads with the Hornady 160's to follow the first pointed bullet up.

I found a bunch of 307 win brass so I'll stock up.
Ya I have a bunch that I don't think I will use. But what range are we talking about?

I use the 444 marlin case necked down to 338. It is called the 338 JDJ #2 and was invented by JD Jones of SSK industries home of the Hand Cannons. He specializes in TC Contenders and Encores. This round was designed to work in the Contender. With a 14 inch barrel I could get 2550 FPS with a 180 gr NBT. My farthest kill with this was an antelope at 429 yds. I know he has a 308 version with this case. Check his website. That would be a real nice round in a rifle.

Necking down the 45-70 to 30 cal would give you a 30x348 win P.O. Ackley did a lot of these in the improved version they make a very potent 30 cal lever gun

but a 45-70 class of lever action can't handle the chamber pressures that this round generates to make it a good round. The .450 is a little stronger action wise, but will still be way down in ability to handles these kind of pressures. Best bet would be a .356 Marlin necked down to .338 or simply rechamber a .336 into .338 Marlin (real odd ball case). A 30-30 Ackley improved might be worth a serious look even though your very limited to bullet styles. How about a 35 Remington necked down to .338 or even 30 caliber?
